Stockport Credit Union is a saving and loans co-operative, regulated by the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority. We provide essential savings and lending services within the Stockport borough.
We help people access better rates of finance, move away from payday lenders and loan sharks, and encourage financial literacy and improve their financial management.
We are a member-owned, values-driven business. We are in the middle of an exciting period of transformational change and have ambitious plans to develop, modernise and grow our business.
We recently appointed a new Chief Executive and a Business Development Manager and have refreshed our Board. This is a brand-new role and is an opportunity to join an ambitious and socially important organisation at a pivotal point in its development.

ABCUL Credit Union Foundation Project Manager

We are now seeking to recruit a Project Manager to work on an Oral History Project that documents and catalogues the history and heritage of the credit union movement. The lottery funding for the project will be managed through the Credit Union Foundation which is a subsidiary company of ABCUL run as a charity to support the development of credit unions and their staff through grants, education and learning.

The position will be based at ABCUL’s office in central Manchester but home working will be an option for some of the time particularly in light of the on-going COVID-19 situation. The role is a new role to the trade body and is therefore a start-up position which will require a clear understanding of the project along with the ability to engage external stakeholders and volunteers to ensure successful project delivery.

We have a busy office run by a small, friendly staff team, over 10,000 members and a loan book of over £5m. Our office is based in SE London with excellent transport links across the capital and to the south east. Our members represent a good cross section of the local community and we have a number of well-established local authority and other employer partnerships. We are looking for members across all demographics in the West/South West London area (if you live or work in the areas of: Ealing, Hounslow, Richmond, Kingston, Wandsworth and Spelthorne).

• Credit union knowledge and/or working knowledge
• Community work and/or charity work including social enterprises
• Setting up and/or managing your own business
• Strategic and/or operational expertise in a financial services organisation
• Specialisms in the area of accountancy, legal, finance, governance, human resources, IT and risk management, credit risk, regulatory compliance or unsecured lending in a financial services context
